About This Cruise

The Movenpick MS Sunray Nile Cruise is a luxury cruise between Luxor and Aswan: four nights from Luxor every Thursday, or three nights from Aswan every Monday. Every visit ashore is made privately, with your own Egyptologist guide for your group only. In Luxor the Sunray moors at its own private dock in the Al Bughdadi area, about 15 km south of Luxor airport.

Starting in Luxor, the four night cruise gives you the most time. Karnak and Luxor Temple fill your first afternoon, and the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon the next morning, before the ship sails south after lunch and the afternoon is yours on the sundeck. Edfu and Kom Ombo follow on day three, then the High Dam, Philae Temple and the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan on day four, when Abu Simbel can be added as an optional extra.

Starting in Aswan, the three night cruise fits the main sights into a shorter trip. You see the High Dam, Philae Temple and the Unfinished Obelisk on the day you embark. The Sunray sails early the next morning for Kom Ombo and Edfu and continues via Esna to Luxor, where your last full day covers both banks. Choose it when time is short; choose the four nights for a slower pace and the chance to see Abu Simbel.

The Sunray suits couples, families and small groups who want a luxury ship without sharing a guide with a coach party. Your Egyptologist explains each site at your pace and answers your questions, and between visits you return to a Movenpick ship with a sundeck pool and full board dining. Private guiding ashore with Movenpick comfort on board is the reason to choose the Sunray.

The standard cabins are the Superior Cabins on the main deck, with twin beds or a king bed and air conditioning. The bathroom has a bathtub, with bathrobes, slippers and a hair dryer provided. A 43 inch smart TV, free WiFi, a minibar and a safe are standard, and the espresso machine and the tea and coffee tray, refilled daily, make slow mornings on board easy. Let us know your bed preference when you book.

The eight suites are spread over three decks. The Junior Suite on the main deck has 34 sqm and the Junior Upper on the upper deck 35 sqm. On the top deck, the Deluxe Suite has 37 sqm and the Executive Suite 39 sqm with its own dressing room. Every suite adds a seating area and an extra TV, smart controls for the lights, air conditioning and curtains, a private MiFi device and a soft minibar. With only eight on board, ask for a suite in your first enquiry.

The sundeck has a swimming pool, 150 cm deep, with its own bar, and inside there is a lounge bar, a mini gym and a reading and play room. Meals in the restaurant are an open buffet, with one set menu and one barbecue on the sundeck during each cruise. Evenings include a welcome cocktail, a galabeya night, a Nubian show and a belly dance show, so pack or buy a galabeya if you would like to join in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose the 3 night or the 4 night cruise?▾
Choose the 4 night cruise, every Thursday from Luxor, for a slower pace: it adds a free afternoon of sailing and the option of Abu Simbel on the Aswan day. The 3 night cruise, every Monday from Aswan, covers the same main temples in less time: the ship sails early on day 2 for Kom Ombo and Edfu, and day 3 covers both banks of Luxor. Both include a private Egyptologist guide.
Is sightseeing included, and is the guide private?▾
Yes. Every sightseeing visit in the itinerary is included, with the entrance fees for the sites named and transfers in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your Egyptologist guide is private, for your group only, on every visit. Optional tours cost extra: the Nubian village in Aswan, the Luxor sound and light show, the hot-air balloon ride and, on the 4 night cruise only, Abu Simbel.
Do the cabins have a Nile view?▾
Yes. The Superior Cabins, the standard cabins on the main deck, have a panoramic window onto the Nile. Inside you have air conditioning, a twin or king bed, a bathtub, a 43 inch smart TV, free WiFi and an espresso machine, with the tea and coffee tray refilled daily. For more space, the eight suites add a seating area and a second TV.
Can I visit Abu Simbel on this cruise?▾
Yes, on the 4 night cruise from Luxor. Abu Simbel is an optional extra on day 4 in Aswan, at an additional cost, and we arrange it when you book. It is not offered on the 3 night cruise from Aswan, because the Sunray sails early on the second morning and there is no time for the trip before departure.
Are drinks included with meals?▾
No. Full board covers breakfast, lunch and dinner on the days the itinerary shows. The restaurant serves an open buffet, and each cruise also has one set menu and one barbecue on the sundeck. Drinks are charged separately, whether you order them at the table, at the pool bar on the sundeck or in the lounge bar.
Is the Sunray good for families with children?▾
Yes. Children enjoy the sundeck pool, which is 150 cm deep, so younger ones need an adult with them, and the reading and play room. Your private guide can pace each visit for young travellers. The Children's Policy section on this page explains when child rates apply and how many children can share a cabin, so tell us your children's ages when you enquire.
