About Sharm El-Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, where the desert meets some of the Red Sea’s best diving and snorkeling. Ras Mohammed National Park and Tiran Island are the headline reef sites, and Naama Bay is the town’s social centre. It’s also the closest coastal base for a night trip up Mount Sinai and St. Catherine’s Monastery.

Most stays are beach-and-reef focused, with three to seven days typical depending on how much diving is planned. Ras Mohammed and Tiran are usually full-day boat trips; Mount Sinai is normally an overnight excursion timed around sunrise at the summit.

Sharm El-Sheikh Travel Tips

The summit is cold before dawn

Even in summer, the top of Mount Sinai is windy and chilly at 4am. Bring a fleece.

See both faces of town

Naama Bay is the resort promenade; the Old Market is the bazaar. They’re different worlds and both worth an evening.

Respect the currents at Tiran

The straits are famous for drift snorkeling. Stay close to your guide and wear the flotation vest.

Agree taxi fares first

Quotes vary wildly. Fix the price before the ride, or use hotel transport.

Check your visa type

Some nationalities can use a Sinai-only entry stamp; trips beyond Sinai (like Cairo) need the full Egypt visa. Check before booking add-ons.

Front-load the boat days

Book Ras Mohammed early in your stay so wind days can be swapped without losing the trip.

Sharm El-Sheikh Travel FAQ

Do I need a visa to go from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo?
Yes, this is a critical point. The free “Sinai Only” stamp you might receive upon arrival at Sharm Airport is not valid for travel to Cairo or Luxor. You must purchase the full Egyptian Entry Visa (approx. $25 USD) at the airport upon arrival or get an E-Visa beforehand to join any Sharm El Sheikh Day Tours leaving the Sinai Peninsula.
How long is the journey from Sharm El Sheikh to the Pyramids?
It depends on your mode of transport. A flight takes approximately 1 hour, making it the most comfortable option. Traveling by bus or private vehicle takes about 6 to 8 hours per way. We highly recommend the flight option to maximize your sightseeing time at the Pyramids.
Can I visit Luxor from Sharm El Sheikh?
Absolutely. We organize day tours from Sharm to Luxor by plane. You can visit the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and Hatshepsut Temple and return to your hotel in Sharm the same evening.
What should I wear on these tours?
Comfort is key. Wear breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes, as there is a lot of walking at the Giza Plateau. If your tour includes visiting a mosque (like in Old Cairo), modest dress covering shoulders and knees is required.
Are these tours suitable for children?
Yes, our tours are family-friendly. However, considering the travel time, we recommend the flight option for families with young children to reduce travel fatigue. We can also tailor the itinerary to be more engaging for younger travelers.
Is it safe to travel from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo?
Yes, the route is secured and frequented by tourists daily. Nile Empire prioritizes your safety by using modern, well-maintained vehicles and experienced drivers. We also monitor security updates constantly to ensure a smooth trip.
