The Old Cairo Coptic and Islamic Tour walks you through the two oldest religious quarters of the city (the Coptic enclave of Babylon Fortress and the medieval streets of Islamic Cairo) in a single, unhurried day. This is a faith-and-heritage tour, not a museum day: there is no Egyptian Museum and no Citadel stop, so you spend your time inside the churches, synagogue, mosques and bazaars themselves.
In Coptic Cairo your guide leads you through narrow lanes to the Hanging Church, the Church of Abu Serga built over a crypt where the Holy Family is said to have sheltered, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. The quarter is small and walkable, and your Egyptologist sets each building in the long story of Christian and Jewish Cairo.
After lunch you move to Islamic Cairo and the medieval spine of Al-Muizz Street, lined with mosques, madrasas and merchant houses, finishing in the bustle of Khan el-Khalili bazaar near the Al-Hussein Mosque.
